The Lucknam: Behind the Design

Over the years, we’ve discovered that inspiration can come from almost anywhere if you look hard enough. One of the newest additions to our Country Collection, a polished and sleek skinny sconce, was designed in the tradition of other equestrian-inspired fixtures in our catalog like the Bit Wall and Bit Hang, but its origins are perhaps far less expected.

On a family vacation to the UK last fall during a stay at Lucknam Park–a centuries-old country house in the Cotswolds set on a sprawling 500-acre estate–Urban Electric founder, Dave Dawson, saw something that caught his eye on a trip to the property's renowned stables: among the buckles and bridles, a series of uniquely utilitarian pieces of hardware affixed at an angle to each stall.

In the object's clean lines, elongated shape and elegantly simple construction, Dave envisioned the ideal proportions of a refined wall light. Several sketches, prototypes and design innovations from the new product development team later, including one that led to the production of our slimmest backplate ever, The Lucknam was born.
